Residential drafting designers in Penshurst with tips for designing a new garage
Our residential drafting designers in Penshurst explain that as new homes keep getting bigger, so has the trend toward designing new garages to accommodate more vehicles and more storage.
Your garage is not an expensive piece of construction, but too often the drive to keep costs to a minimum results in a garage that isn't as visually appealing or as useful as it could be.
With that said, here our residential design experts in the Sutherland Shire have a few tips to keep in mind:
Attached or separate: Attached garages are convenient but design can be limited. Take some time to consider the benefits of separating the garage from the house.
Size: The two-car garage has become the minimal standard, and it needs to be large enough for SUVs or vans. Three- and four-car garages are becoming increasingly more popular as are garages with workshops and ample storage areas.
Storage: We all have many belongings and it’s great to be able to store them away from the house itself. Storage is a very important part of your garage. From bikes to garden tools and all kinds of tools, hobbies and household items your garage should have ample space for all of your storage needs.
Orientation: Your garage doesn’t always have to perfectly face the street. You could try to adjust the footprint so that the garage entrance is angled away from the street. A 90-degree offset from the house is ideal, but even 45 degrees can significantly reduce the impact the garage entrance has on the street view of the house.
