Residential design services in the Sutherland Shire explain exempt development in The Shire
Here at Go Design, our experts in residential extensions in the Sutherland Shire know all there is about Development Applications for both extensions and new building, but there are a number of minor works that are exept from Council approval.
Exempt development is minor work that has little environmental impact which can be done without approval. It includes, among other things:
- aerials
- carports
- decks
- fences
- garden sheds
- home businesses
Exempt development can be carried out in most parts of the Shire, except for some environmentally sensitive land, national parks and some land containing heritage items. Often a particular development will be prevented from being an exempt development because of its location in an environmentally sensitive area such as below a foreshore building line or in bushfire prone land, or for other reasons.
